Today, the Councillors, being guided by Council Officials, had a tour of projects currently being undertaken by the Council. Below is a summary of the projects visited.
1. Construction of Council Offices – the offices would be located at one of the Council’s premises in Baobab Hill, which were being leased out as an ECD centre. Works have commenced on site, with the contractor currently working on the foundation trenches. The contractor has been given a strict timeline and Council expects the project to be at an advanced stage by year end. The project is being financed using Council funds.
2. Construction of a Classroom Block – Construction of a block with three classrooms and ablution facilities for ECD students is currently in progress at Nechibondo Primary School. The project is being financed using devolution funds received from the government.
3. Fencing of Empumalanga Clinic – A perimeter fence has been installed to secure the new Clinic. The fencing was financed using devolution funds received from the government.
4. Empumalanga Phase 4 Water Project – A pipeline supplying water to Phase 4 has been installed, and some properties have already been connected to the water system. The Council would handle the provision of all water services to Phase 4 residents. A bulk meter has been installed, such that the Phase 4 residents would be supplied water by the Council, which in turn, would purchase bulk water from ZINWA. This project is being financed using Council funds. Once the water project has been concluded, Council would immediately commence on the laying down of sewer reticulation infrastructure.
