The Town of Hwange

Hwange Town is endowed with the gift of Mother Nature, situated the closest to Hwange National Park entry points of Sinamatela and Main Camp, it is 100km from the magnificent Victoria Falls and is home to coal mining giants and the Hwange Thermal Power Station.

Formely known as Wankie, Hwange is the hub of coal mining in the country and is in the middle of the Hwange National Park. The town is situated along the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway in Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe. It has direct road and rail links with major urban centers as well as the neighboring countries of Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Mozambique.

The town is home to people of diverse cultures. The majority of the local people can speak an average of six languages, namely, Nambiya, Nyanja, Tonga, Ndebele, Shona and English.

Temperatures range between a mean maximum of 40.0ºC in October and a mean minimum of 12 ºC in July.  The rain falls patterns are erratic. The locality enjoys the Savanna Climate though it can be extremely hot at times.
